Rising bilingual pop artist Alexander James Rodriguez is embracing a darker and more atmospheric sound with the release of his new Spanish-language single “Veneno.” The Latin electronica dance track, now streaming worldwide, delivers a hypnotic fusion of moody synth production, infectious rhythms, and emotionally charged storytelling that continues to position Alexander as one of the emerging young voices in modern Latin pop.

Released across all major streaming platforms and officially submitted for Latin Grammy® consideration, “Veneno” marks a bold creative evolution for the singer-songwriter, blending late-night club energy with themes of temptation, obsession, and emotional addiction.

Built around haunting repetition and cinematic lyricism, “Veneno” dives deep into the emotional chaos of toxic attraction. Translating to “Poison,” the song explores the feeling of becoming consumed by something dangerous while still craving more.

I wanted to explore the idea of temptation and emotional addiction,” Alexander explains. “We all have experiences where we know something or someone may not be good for us, but there’s still this magnetic pull we can’t escape. Veneno is about that feeling, when desire overpowers logic and you keep going back for one more taste, even knowing the consequences.”

The metaphor of poison became central to the song’s identity, both lyrically and sonically. Throughout the track, Alexander uses vivid imagery to represent emotional toxicity and seductive manipulation, including standout lines like “De tu manzana mordí” (“I took a bite from your apple”), a lyric inspired by temptation and curiosity.

That line is definitely symbolic,” he says. “It references temptation and knowingly stepping into danger. I wanted the lyrics to feel cinematic and dramatic, almost like a fever dream unfolding on the dance floor.

Musically, “Veneno” leans into darker electronic textures than many of Alexander’s previous more disco-inspired releases. Pulsating synths, layered vocals, and magnetic production create a trance-like atmosphere designed to pull listeners into the emotional core of the song.

I wanted this track to live in a more underground, late-night world,” Alexander says, “We spent a lot of time building atmosphere in the studio. I wanted the repetition in the chorus to feel almost trance-like, like you’re spiraling deeper into the emotion with every beat.

The cover art for “Veneno” visually captures the emotional chaos and psychological tension at the heart of the song. Featuring Alexander James Rodriguez’s face split open with flames and smoke erupting from within, the artwork symbolizes internal destruction, temptation, and the feeling of carrying something toxic beneath the surface.

Alexander explains, “The glowing fire represents both passion and danger, reflecting the song’s recurring metaphor of poison as emotional addiction. Rather than portraying heartbreak in a traditional way, we wanted the image to suggest a mind consumed from the inside out, where desire and obsession burn simultaneously

The dark amber tones, fragmented composition, and illuminated typography further enhance the nocturnal, underground club atmosphere that defines the sound of “Veneno.” Visually, the artwork mirrors the music itself: hypnotic, seductive, emotionally volatile, and impossible to ignore.

For Alexander, the balance between emotional storytelling and high-energy production is essential to his creative identity.

I’ve always loved music that makes you move and makes you feel something deeper,” he explains. “For me, the best dance songs still have emotion underneath them. Even if people are dancing, there’s still a story being told.

Known for seamlessly moving between English and Spanish music, Alexander continues to build a sound that blends emotional vulnerability with dancefloor-ready production. Since receiving the Rising Star Award at the 2021 Hollywood Music in Media Awards, he has steadily expanded his reach through genre-blending releases and visually driven artistry.

In 2024, Alexander was invited to join the Recording Academy as a Grammy Voting Member, and earlier this year he joined the Latin Recording Academy as a Latin Grammy Voting Member, further cementing his growing presence within the music industry.

As “Veneno” continues gaining momentum following its release Alexander sees the single as the beginning of a new artistic era.

I’m continuing to explore this darker, electronic side of my sound while still keeping strong pop melodies at the center,” he says. “I feel like Veneno is opening the door to a really exciting new chapter creatively.
