Founder and CEO of Beverly Hills Car Club, Alex Manos, has established himself as one of the world’s leading experts in European classic cars.
Having moved from London, to Australia, to Los Angeles where he currently resides, his fine taste in cars and need for speed has propelled him forward in all aspects of his life - food, work, parties, clothes and nature that not only SoCal has to offer, but across international hotspots.
Perhaps one can argue that his fast pace of life stems from being born in the back of a speeding ambulance... One thing we know for sure is that his fascination for speed has helped him enormously as an entrepreneur, translating into his bursting energy and strong work focus.
Growing up in Europe, his parents have been a key influence on his love of cars, taking him for weekend trips in his father’s E-Type Jaguar and his mother’s 1964 Volvo 1800 S, where he would also take pride in disassembling and assembling car parts. Such insights exposed him to the fine detail and craftsmanship of European classics, and at this young age, Manos realized how much cars excited him and had to be a part of his everyday life and work.
Moving to Los Angeles as a teen equipped him with the eye for American classics, especially how bright and bold they looked along Beverly Hills’ palm tree-lined streets. In the early 2000’s, Manos purchased his first classic car - a 1962 Lincoln Continental, fitted with the suicide doors. Although it was mechanically sound, Manos took great pleasure in rebuilding all kinds of intricate components and overall look, or as commonly done in LA, had some “cosmetic work”.
After he completed the car’s fix-up, he drew the eyes of many across town. After he received great interest and offers from celebrities, he sold the Continental and used the money to buy his next venture, a convertible that he again restored and kitted out to become his dream car. It was a huge success. So much so, that he was again flagged down by one of Los Angeles’ most prominent businessmen, who offered Manos a check there and then on the spot.
Manos felt deeply flattered yet panicked at the same time, as he couldn’t bare to part ways with his dream car. However, as the entrepreneur inside him shone through, the two of them agreed on a price after a 3-hour long roadside negotiation, where Manos was handed a large check. He quickly saw the potential for a new business – buying and selling classic cars. It encompassed his passion for finding and restoring classic cars, combined with his innate ability as a salesman, which in 2008, birthed the official launch of his company, the Beverly Hills Car Club.
Today, Alex Manos is one of the nation's leading buyers of classic European cars, with Beverly Hills Car Club becoming one of the largest dealerships in the world. The entrepreneur’s growing empire currently boasts over 135,000 square feet of showroom crammed full of jaw-dropping classic cars.
